Hutesa Agroalimentaria tells the story of a family that turned a personal initiative into a solid, international business built on strong values. Founded in the late 1980s by María Paz Hurtado after the company she worked for closed, she began buying and selling olives with her husband, Gregorio López, starting with limited resources. Shared effort, trust, and risk-taking defined the early years.

In the early 1990s, the acquisition of facilities in Fuente de Piedra enabled industrial growth, consolidating Hutesa’s international presence. By 2004, production capacity exceeded 10,000 tons, and in 2006 the company received the Alas Award for Internationalization. By 2016, Hutesa was present in over 25 countries, reinforcing its global positioning.

Throughout its growth, Hutesa has focused on quality, innovation, and excellence, earning international certifications such as ISO, IFS, BRC, and HALAL. In 2023, the company further strengthened control from the origin by incorporating its own cultivation.

The second generation joined in 2011 with Javier López Hurtado as CEO, maintaining the founding values. By 2025, Hutesa will continue investing in innovation through research projects supported by the CDTI.

Today, Hutesa is a family-owned company that integrates employees, olive growers, and partners into a working model based on commitment, closeness, and continuous improvement—these being the key drivers of its development.

María Paz Hurtado began buying and selling olives from one of the rooms of her small flat in Málaga.

1992

Turnover reached over 500 million of the old pesetas (3 million euros).

2004

Surpasses 10,000 tonnes of capacity.

2006

Alas Award for Internationalisation.

2011

Javier López Hurtado joins the company.

2014

María Paz Hurtado received the Medal of Andalusia for her outstanding business career and her contribution to the development of the Andalusian agri-food sector.

2016

Exports to more than 25 countries.

Gregorio López Díaz

Gregorio López Díaz is the Senior CEO of Hutesa Agroalimentaria, where he leads the company’s global strategy and sustainable growth. With over 25 years’ experience in business leadership and team management, he combines strategic vision with a deep understanding of the agri-food sector. Before joining Hutesa, Gregorio built up extensive experience in the hotel sector, where he was in charge of finance and human resources at chains such as Meliá Hotels, managing teams and processes for over two decades. Under his leadership, Hutesa has consolidated its presence in international markets, optimising processes, fostering innovation and strengthening the corporate culture. His commitment to excellence and the development of internal talent has been key to the company’s success and expansion.

María Paz Hurtado

María Paz Hurtado Cabrera is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hutesa Agroalimentaria. With over three decades of business experience, she has led the company since its inception in 1988, driving the brand’s international growth from the very outset. Under her leadership, Hutesa has established itself as a leading player in the Andalusian and Spanish agri-food sector, exporting to numerous international markets and expanding its global presence. María Paz Hurtado has been awarded the Medal of Andalusia for her contribution to the region’s economic and social development, and has also received various business awards in recognition of her career and leadership. Her strategic vision and commitment to quality have been key to Hutesa’s sustainable growth, driving innovation, international expansion and the company’s consolidation in demanding markets.

Javier López Hurtado

Javier López Hurtado is Junior CEO of Hutesa Agroalimentaria, playing a key role in the strategic development of the family business and in the operational management of its various business areas. Since joining the management team in 2011, he has been actively involved in implementing continuous improvement plans and in the company’s international expansion. Javier combines his academic background and language skills with a modern approach to business management, focusing on process optimisation, innovation and sustainable growth. His appointment reinforces the generational transition within Hutesa and helps to consolidate the company’s presence in global markets.
